lyrics

High Milage Soul

Martin's singing on the stereo and he's singing 'bout diners
How someday he's gonna quit the road me I'm driving watching the miles go
Stacking up I watch 'em go down it's a revolution as the wheels go 'round
A small cafe a one-horse town a little further down the road

So I take out my heart to show the crowd and I tell my stories I sing 'em loud
Some won't hear but I'm not proud I tell 'em anyway
And it's a little later it's a cheap motel hot shower thinking how I fell
And wash away the longing from this high milage soul

There are days I don't remember where I've been
I try to keep it together by writing down what I've seen
Really I'm just another face in a car gone by
I try to make good time but it's my luck to get caught behind some great big truck
Car shimmying and shaking like an Elvis song call it a semi-quaver but it lasts too long

So I take out my heart to show the crowd and I tell my stories sing 'em loud
Some won't hear but I'm not proud I tell 'em anyway
And it's a little later it's a cheap motel hot shower thinking how I fell
And wash away the longing from this high milage soul

How many years how many miles gone by
Watching my thoughts pour out across a prairie sky
With a sad girl singing on the stereo singing her heart and making the tears flow
How many nights spent sleeping alone in one more bed in another time zone
It's too early to wonder but it's too late to phone

So I take out my heart to show the crowd and I tell my stories sing 'em loud
Some won't hear but I'm not proud I tell 'em anyway
And it's a little later it's a cheap motel hot shower thinking how I fell
And wash away the longing from this high milage soul
It's a little later it's a cheap motel hot shower thinking how I fell
And wash away the longing from this high milage soul

Martin's singing on the stereo and he's singing 'bout diners
How someday he's gonna quit the road
Me I'm driving watching the miles go by
